Aussie Environmentalism

As with most things, the Aussies are not afraid to use shame to get what they want for the earth.

Poinsettias are trees?

Who knew? I thought they only grew in red-foil-wrapped pots. They literally can grow a giant version of just about anything in this country.

Apparently it's "freezing" in Sydney

Or so I keep being told by all the locals. Sad thing is, I actually felt sorry for myself as I shivered my way to work this morning. I have become ridiculously soft. How am I ever going to return to Boston???!!!

This one takes the cake...

... or rather, the egregiously overpriced loaf of bread. Regular readers of this blog know me for my rants about the ridiculousness of food pricing in Australia, but this one leaves me without words (almost). My mission to document this ongoing craziness is so well known that this photo was actually emailed to me by a colleague on her way to work. Good thing I didn't see it with my own eyes or I may not have been able to hide my amazement from the shopkeeper. To add insult to injury, they even have the gall to suggest you tip them on top of that gouging (note tip jar to right of loaf). Alas, I'm at least comforted by the knowledge that said loaf is likely de-lish as food here never disappoints when it comes to taste.

Happy 4th of July

And one random picture of a bird saying good morning on the patio. Beautiful, but loud.
