We, along with Jacki and her best friend Cara who made the trek all the way here to visit her (hint, hint, we have a spare bedroom on offer!) spent the weekend in the Blue Mountains. One flat tire and 2 carsickness near misses later, we made it to Leura. It was absolutely beautiful and we had such a great time. A few highlights:
Jenolan Caves - Abbey was not a huge fan as a) she is lazy, b) she doesn't particularly enjoy walking for long distances ("Mommy, I've been walking all day!") and c) she thinks everything smells yucky even when its not in a dark, damp underground chamber. Hannah was in heaven though and ran around like a lunatic taking pictures (and intermittently dropping the camera) the whole time. Here are a few of her (and Pete's) shots.
That's us, heading into the caves.
She looks happy here, but only because it was the first few feet. The next 59 mins were somewhat torturous. At one point during the tour guide's seemingly informative comments she shouted out "Mommy, everything that man is saying is just complete garbage". The grandmother standing next to me thought it was pretty funny, but the guide not so much.
It was not really for the claustrophobic among us.
Our lunch companion at the caves. Yes, he is much more beautiful than a seagull trying to steal your sandwich, but no less bold and persistent.
The absolute hands down favorite adventure of the weekend, however, was horseback riding in the valley. The girls could not believe their ears when they heard they were going to be allowed to ride on their very own horses without someone standing next to them holding them on. About 5 mins in Hannah asked me "Mommy, can we do this again some time? This is the best thing I've ever done in my life". And that was before we saw kangaroos jumping across our trail.
All the ladies getting suited up!
So very, very proud of herself!
That's Hannah in the pink leading the way (well, just behind her guide that was leading her horse). I dare you to try to get to the front of that line, Hannah would have fought you to the death for that spot.
She looks so little up there, doesn't she?
Two roos and a joey. Beautiful and graceful, really topped off the day for me.
Hannah having a little private instruction with her guide.
"Hi Mom!!"
More tomorrow, I have to go to sleep!
